Meet the Artists

Tineke Doornbosch

Dutch born Tineke Doornbosch immigrated to Canada in 1989 after marrying a Canadian citizen. She brought with her a zest for life that was matched only by her passion for gardening and more recently, a penchant for figure sculpting.

After a successful career in the airline industry, Tineke retired in 2003. While travelling overseas during this time, Tineke discovered Powertex. Soon she was addicted to creating whimsical creations with this versatile product. It was only natural then that she would combine her gardening and sculpting hobbies into a business playfully called “Garden Spirits”

Tineke particularly loves to work with materials and natural products that are close at hand. Inspired by the living world in her own garden, Tineke incorporates cotton, leather, stone, wood, brick, grass and lace into her art.

In 2004 Tineke moved from the hustle and bustle of Ottawa to the small community of Perth, Ontario. With the encouragement of other local artists, she participates in local studio tours and several juried shows. Tineke’s art was featured on CTV’s regional contact program twice and very recently she was the subject of a Kingston TV program.

Tineke’s love of fabric sculpture was infectious. With numerous requests to share her talents, it was inevitable that she would teach classes on using Powertex. With a small class size of 4 to 6 students, held in the comfort of her home studio, each student is assured a successful first encounter creating a Powertex sculpture.

Placed near a pond, a path, a garden, a brook.
In a kitchen, a den, on a shelf, in a nook.
With sedentary grace, each figurine will cry:
“I’m your Free Spirit; a new friend to sit by.”
